revenge of the machines

this past weekend i got my new camera. it was really amazing when i first opened it up and started taking pictures, and i immediately became satisfied with my purchase. knowing full well that with a new camera i would start taking a SHIT LOAD of pictures, i upped the ante on my flickr uploads in an attempt to get finished with that asap.

this weekend i got within about 600 photos, with the total right now at just over 7,400. that would put the total (when i’m current) at about 8,000!! isn’t that amazing?

anyhoo, one of the reasons why i was really excited to get all these photos finally uploaded is that it would further decrease the need for my OWN personal computer. see, once i get current on the photos, i will only need a computer for a few basic things: email, blogging, uploading my current photos, and general interneting; all of which i can do from just about any computer. not that i would sell my computer or anything, just that it wouldn’t matter if i had to go without it for some reason. i’m so close to realizing that goal.

well, tonight, the machines struck back. i don’t think they liked the idea of me leaving them. maybe they’re jealous and think i’ve found someone else. maybe they’re just spiteful creations. i don’t know. either way, it has become quite obvious that they were NOT ready to break up with me yet, and they were NOT going out without a fight. what am i trying to say here?

in a nut shell… BOTH of the hard drives that i use on a daily basis (the one in my laptop AND my external) simultaneously failed tonight. can you fucking believe that?

year in review

wow! 2006… what a year, huh? it’s pretty cool for me to look back on this year in particular and actually be able to see a change. i feel that most of my new year’s celebrations don’t usually include much reflection. i’m not sure why that is, but this year it feels much different. from where i am now, i’m able too look back and actually remember where i was and what i was doing “this time last year.” it’s weird, but very cool. i think this year feels so different because it was the first year away from home and FULL of change.

about this time last year i was down in btown celebrating the new year at dan stoner’s house. meredith and i were preparing our move out to seattle and things were quite a bit different than they are now.

in only ONE year (365 days) meredith and i moved from indiana to seattle, first living in the austin house. we lived there for about 3 months and then moved into the honey bucket. we lived there for about 4 months and then moved into the hotbox, and we’ve only been living here for about 4 months now. that’s a lot of moving in 1 year!

it’s interesting to see that we’ve slowly been moving even further west with each move. maybe by this time next year we’ll be living on the coast. ha!

meredith has had like three or four jobs and i’m on my second. she’s been taking care of autistic children (and reporting abusive caregivers in the process), working nights on a crisis hotline, and practically living at a dog ranch. me on the other hand? i was the web designer at a scuba shop on westlake for about 6 months and then nintendo decided to pay me to play video games 40 hours a week. currently i’m in the call center, but i hope to go back to game testing a few weeks.

i helped launch zinedistro.org and then went to sxsw to promote it. i also designed, developed, and launched ListYourList almost exclusively on my own. after a deep saturation into the world of computers, i got a little sick of it all and successfully transfered about 10 different websites off my server. at this point i am not personally hosting any websites, and i literally can feel less weight on my shoulders.

a few months ago i started a HUGE push to upload all of my photos onto flickr. i’m about half way done at this point, and plan on getting that totally wrapped up before summer because…

my new year’s resolution is to take about 4 months off (may – aug), and i want to spend most of that time outside taking a shit load of pictures with my soon to be new camera (canon rebel xti).

i’m sure i did other cool things this year. do you remember anything in particular that i left out? leave me a comment and let me know.

happy freaking new year

C89.5 Worlwide

i’ve discovered a new radio station here in the greater seattle area. it keeps me dancing 24 hours a day, and it’s essentially commercial free. oh yeah, and did i mention that it’s ALL techno ALL day!!

that’s right!! 24/7 TECHNO!!  C89.5 Worldwide!!

i love this station most when i’m driving in the car, but it also helps me clean my room or cook some food. it’s awesome. my favorite part is the type of techno that they play: it’s DANCE techno. i don’t really know what you call it (house, drum & bass, trance, etc), but it totally rocks my body. and they don’t just play unknown crazy shit that no one’s ever heard of, they also play a lot of remixes of pop songs. so, amongst the unfamiliar body rocking beats you’ll be happy to find a few that you actually know the lyrics to.

and on top of all THAT, they also have awesome little segments like Envirominutes. this morning the envirominute was about invasive species and how harmful they are. i learned all about zebra muscles and himalayan black berries and how harmful they can be to environments that aren’t prepared.

the most amazing part to me, however, is that it’s student radio. i seriously can’t believe how awesome it sounds, and it’s run by freaking high school students. that is amazing. you should definitely check out their about page.

if you live in seattle, add 89.5 to your presets, and if you don’t, start streaming that shit RIGHT NOW!!
