Hello! My name is Eli Duke and right now I'm hanging out in Portland, OR.

Settling In

For the most part, my role in the Plumb Shop is to carry things. Occasionally I might put in a few shower heads here and there, screw or unscrew something (depending, of course), and if I’m lucky I might drive a truck somewhere. The life of a Plumber GA is a pretty sweet one, that’s for sure.

But this past friday I graduated to the next level: I completed a work order all by myself! Yeah! Sure, I only had to find and replace the sink stoppers in the women’s bathroom at MMI, but you gotta start somewhere. So, I walked on over and checked everything out: the stoppers were just sitting there next to the sink, but they needed chains attached to them so that they could be pulled out. Unfortunately, one of the stoppers had lost it’s handle and I had to fashion a new one.

I figured the easiest way was to put a bolt through it and secure it with a nut on the other side, but then how would I attach a chain to the bolt? This is when it comes in handy to share a shop with the welders. A few minutes (and a little bit of silver solder) later, and I had this little piece of work, custom made.

congrats…isn’t the paperwork part total bullshit?

Eli: Good job with the sink plug!! In this world of collapsing markets it’s a good feeling when something gets done right–Can’t wait to return down under to Mac-Town–where (in plumbing vernacular) a straight flush beats a full house!

I've been waiting all summer for this, and it just had to show up 3 days before I leave. Thanks a lot, Portland.
