on mornings, off nights

by Eli

for the first 4 weeks meredith and i worked the PM shift (11am to 9pm), which gave us a few hours of free time in the morning (if we woke up early enough) and a few at night. it was a great schedule for early-morning-volunteering in other departments and/or staying up late even if we had to work the next morning. despite all those benefits, this schedule did not allow us to participate in most of the general activities which occur from about 5pm to 9pm (when most people are off work).

but this past saturday meredith and i switched from PM to AM. now we work from 6am to 4pm with our whole evenings to ourselves! it’s been about 4 days so far and we really like it. one of the strangest parts is working along side our fellow DAs that are still on PM and realizing that they have 5 more hours of work when we leave at 4pm.

there’s so much to do when i get off work now that i have a hard time keeping it all straight. last night i had 3 hours of band practice with 2 different bands, tomorrow meredith and nate and i are going on a “delta trip” to cape evans (6 hours round trip), i’m driving the shuttle to Scott Base (the kiwi base) for American Night on thursday, and in about 30 minutes i’m going to my first antarctic stitch-n-bitch (to hopefully finish meredith’s scarf). there’s yoga and rock climbing and tap dancing lessons and spanish conversation classes and bowling and indoor soccer. ahhhh!!
