facebook is amazing

by Eli

i remember it like it was yesterday:

i’m chilling with hannah (and others) in her room over at nordheim and devon tells us this story about how someone in his ROTC group was kicked out because there were pictures of him consuming alcohol (while under age) on his Facebook profile. hilarious!

so we got to talking about how weird that would be to just DELETE your facebook or myspace account, and THAT got me thinking how silly it seemed to me to have 2 accounts for 2 different social networking sites that do basically the same thing. i made the decision right then and there that one of them had to go.

this was back in the day when Facebook was only for students and was not NEARLY as awesome as it is today, so i made a hard decision and i deleted my Facebook account. boo hoo.

fast-foward 2 years and Facebook gets significantly cooler while myspace treads water and still sucks about the same. then all of a sudden, out of left field, on this very day, WordPress.com announces a new Facebook App. i really like wordpress, so if they’re endorsing Facebook then maybe there’s something there that i’m missing. one thing’s for certain, they sure as hell didn’t launch a new myspace app. eww… just the thought.

anyhoo, i decided that i wanted to see what this new wordpress/facebook thing was, so i marched right on over to facebook.com and tried to create a new account. they told me that an account already existed under my email address and then suggested that i reset my password. i did just that and then they told me that my account had been “deactivated” and that i could just click one little button and REactivate it. i did just that.

all of sudden, it was like i’d never left. i still had all my photos and friends and comments and yaddy yaddy yadda. i was suprised, to say the least.

so i played around with facebook for a few minutes and couldn’t stop running into things that make facebook about 100 times better than myspace, not to mention the new wordpress app. soon thereafter i got an email notification from myspace and i almost puked after the first page loaded. i knew right then and there that something needed to change.

see, all this time i thought that i hated those kinds of social networking sites, but it turns out that i just hate myspace. i know it’s SO trending to hate things that are popular, but honestly there is nothing about myspace that makes me want to use it. there are plenty of things that make me want to use Facebook, and i think you’ll be seeing a lot more of me in that regard.

anyhoo, i tried to make a short list of awesome facebook things, but i couldn’t even begin to wrap my head around it because there are so many things. so, you’ll just have to take my word for it.
