seven seven seven

Ingrid's 27th B-Day in Portlandmeredith and i went down to portland this past weekend. there were many reasons why this weekend was the weekend for visiting: my dad was in town, nate and ingrid just got settled into their new house, it was absolutely beautiful weather, et cetera. but the most important reason (of course) was that it was ingrid’s birthday on saturday. she turned 27 on July 7th, 2007 (that’s 7/7/07), and meredith and i definitely wanted to be there in case she exploded or something.

we rode the train down on friday evening and arrived in portland around 10pm. nate picked us up (including ingrid’s friend, emily, who was on the same train) and took us back to the new place. i’d been there once before, but it was nice being there after everything had been put into it’s place.

Ingrid's 27th B-Day in Portlandwe just hung out that first night, woke up around 6am the following morning, and left for the beach as soon as possible. we first stopped at Cannon Beach, the home of Haystack Rock which was famously featured in the movie The Goonies. originally the plan was to only stay there for about an hour because we thought it would be too crowded. turns out that it was really cloudy that morning, so it was pretty barren. either way, we only hung out for about 30 minutes. we saw some horses, took some pictures, and then continued heading south.

our next stop was Short Sands Beach, about a 20 minute drive south of Cannon Beach. it was an amazing horseshoe cove almost completely hidden from view. you had to hike about 20 minutes through the woods to actually get to the beach, which made it much less crowded and quite a bit more awesome. we hung out on the sand, climbed around in the woods surrounding the beach, and jumped into the 50 degree water.

Ingrid's 27th B-Day in Portlandafter the beach we headed back to portland for dinner at the Siam Society and dessert at Pix. we all felt pretty damn hip when the evening was finally over.

meredith and i left on a 6:15pm train on sunday and made it back to the Steig’s by about 11pm that night. if you get a chance to tack the train between portland and seattle, do it.
