LOST thoughts
by Eli
i wrote this post last wednesday night, but for some reason i didn’t post it at the time; i’m not sure why. anyhoo, here it is for you now:
we just finished watching the final episode of season 3 of LOST. it was amazing and wonderful and will leave me with plenty to think about for the next 7 months. until then, i’m going to give you my thoughts: there are spoilers here, so if you haven’t seen the finale yet you might want to hold off. enjoy!
jack and his “flashback”
jack’s flashback seemed to be more of a “flashforward.” i predict that for the remaining 3 seasons each episode will feature a specific character’s flashfoward instead of flashback.
the resulting contact with the boat “80 miles off-shore” will not result in rescue, which won’t happen until the end of the 6th season. therefore, over the next 3 seasons, the flashforwards will be working backwards toward the point of rescue in much the same way that during the first 3 seasons the flashbacks worked forward to the point of crash.
the two times that jack mentioned his father were just ways of trying to trick the audience: he could have easily found prescription forms of his father’s and filled them out for himself; when he told the new doctor to go find his (jack’s) father he was actually saying, “my father, on many occasions, was much worse off than i am right now, and he was never reprimanded.” he was also pretty cracked out and could have just been insane at the time.
questions
- with almost all of the “others” now dead, where are the remaining survivors of the tail section (the flight attendant, the kids, etc)?
- why/how was locke so certain that jack should not talk on the radio? what else did walt say to him?
- is Naomi genuine? or is she just a really good liar? who is she really working for?
- why did charlie think he had to die? why couldn’t he have left the control room and locked the door from the other side?
“why did charlie think he had to die? why couldn’t he have left the control room and locked the door from the other side?”
the last question seems to have the easiest answer:
desmond saw in one of his flashes charlie drown and then later claire and “my baby! my baby! my baby!” aaron get carried away on a chopper. if things change from the flash then there’s no guarantee on the rest staying the same a la arrow not in throat, penelope not in parachute. so charlie takes one for the claaron (like that?) team.
still, i think its pretty weak.
I notice all of your questoins take place on the island but what about who is kate ‘with’ and who died? and why does jack think they shouldn’t have ever left? it’s gonna be hard to wait. God damn that show is good!
who is kate ‘with’ and who died?
My theories are as follows:
1) kate is with Sawyer and Ben is dead or
2) kate is with Ben and Sawyer is dead.
Beat that, suckas.
thank you all for such insightful comments!
I think Shane really makes an excellent point about Charlie’s death and its necissity for saving Claire. I had never really thought about it that way.
i think it’s also important to realize that charlie could not just be killed off randomly. they had to build it up a bit, and, in an effort to make it more meaningful, he had to CHOOSE to die. he could have easily escaped that room and bolted the door from the other side, but he didn’t. he chose to go out like that, and that’s important.
Not that we won’t see a future episode again, but I firmly believe that this was a gimmick for the finale and not a foreshadowing of how the rest of the series plays out. I think everyone knows that the island time is the main part of the show, and showing more of the future demeans the now “flashbacks” to the island. As awesome as it was, we can no longer fear for the safety of Jack and Kate. Every time Jack or Kate is in perilous situation in the next three years, we will know for a fact that they will not die. What is great is that those two were the only two we saw in the future, everyone else is up for grabs. If the show goes super-futury, then that becomes the ‘now’, and then as fun and revealing as the island stories are, they will not mean as much and will totally change the point of the show, which I don’t think they are willing to do. Mark my words, the main drama for all six seasons will be contained to that fucked up island.
oh yeah, and all the rest of the Others (Richard, flight attendant Cindy, old sheriff lady, et al) went to the Temple. We haven’t seen the Temple yet, but I bet whatever is/was worshipped there had a four-toed foot.
nice b, very nice.
