yesterday was my last day working as a game tester for nintendo. i’ve been working there since last august (with 2 months in the call center), but it seems like only yesterday that Ed handed me my very first Wii Remote and told me to “start testing.”
i woke a little bit earlier yesterday morning and borrowed britt’s car to drive to mighty-o and pick up 6 dozen donuts, to celebrate my last day. in concert with these efforts, vanessa made 12 dozen vegan cup cakes from scratch. amazing! i can’t thank her enough. jordan stopped by the hotbox to pick me up on his way to work because carrying 6 dozen donuts on the bus would not have been a good idea.
we set up the donuts in one of the conference rooms at about 7:30am, and then i just went around telling everyone i could find that it was my last day and that i brought in donuts. everyone was extremely grateful and appreciative. my last day couldn’t have gone any better. i’m so happy right now (single tear rolls down my face).

game testing (at nintendo) is one of the best jobs in the world. most of you are probably thinking, “duh! you play video games and get paid for it.” but to be honest, it’s not that simple. sure, playing (testing!) video games is the best job i’ve ever had, but it could have been horrible (i know many people that would hate the job). so what makes it all worth it? what actually makes it one of the best jobs in the world? the people.
i have never worked with such awesome, amazing, kind, and funny people. ever. period. from the very beginning i felt like i was part of the (ultimate) team. considering that many of the employees (associates) have been there for years and have formed very close relationships with each other, it is amazing how quickly they welcomed me (and the other noobs at the time) into the product testing family. i honestly can’t find the words to explain how awesome the whole experience was.
i won’t even try to mention names because i’ll inevitably forget someone, but you know who are. it was awesome to meet you, it was awesome to work with you, and i will miss you.
We had a group of Digipen kids get trained today. They start tomorrow. One of them was wearing white gloves and had a Monopoly mustache. It was weird.
i heard something about those digipen kids a few days before i left. i hope there is still room for the friends of mine that i recommended; they had their interviews today and were told they would be starting sometime in the next couple weeks.
Hey! My last day was the last Monday in May (I forgot which day). I’m hanging out in California right now, but I definitely agree with how awesome everyone in the PTD is. Never forget frisbee.

i’ll be in seattle until july 25th, then i go back to indiana for a bit, then to california, then other random travels, and then i leave for antarctica on september 25th.
