i had two very different, yet important, things to say, but i didn’t want to have to space them out over a few days and i didn’t want to post them back to back. solution? they have been combined. enjoy.
my new glasses
this past thursday my glasses broke. i was at work, and at lunch that day i’d gone out to play some basketball. after i got back to my desk, i took my glasses off the clean the lenses and realized that they were pretty crooked on my face. when i tried to fix the problem, the problem itself got much worse, and the left ear piece completely broke off.
the next couple days i just went without them and contemplated how i wanted to remedy the situation. i checked online to see how much it would be to just buy new glasses or just new frames. all of these options were framed (get it?) with the knowledge that i plan on getting laser eye surgery sometime in the next couple months. point being, i didn’t want to drop $200 on a new pair of glasses when i won’t be needing them at all in the very near future.
in the end, i decided to try something a bit more “creative.” i went to Rite-Aid and bought a pair of $10 reading glasses and some super glue (i made sure to get a pair that sorta fit my lenses). using some needle-nose pliers, i strategically broke the frames, fitted my lenses in place of the reading ones, and super glued the whole thing back together. it worked perfectly!
gasworks
it was an exceptionally beautiful day today, and i was really excited to get outside and have some fun. the girls (mere, marie, and morgen), on the other hand, wanted to go to the fucking mall. BORING! so i went to gasworks by myself and had an amazing time. i brought my camera, my kite, and my bike: i was ready for fun.
when i arrived i was pleased to see that there were a few fellow flyers already there, and i found a good spot and set up camp. to my right a man was testing out his wakeboarding kite, and to my left a woman was practicing for some paragliding up on tiger mountain later in the day.
i was there for at least 3 hours and the wind and weather were perfect. i was in short sleeves and lovin’ the breeze. i talked with the paraglider (heather) for about 30 minutes and learned all kinds cool stuff about paragliding. it was great.
i’m getting super excited for even more kite flying this summer. in the next couple weeks i’ll be buying a new kite, and preparing myself for a summer of fun.
