led zeppelin
by Eli
i know that nate is gonna scoff at this and give me a bunch of guff (you can keep your comments to yourself, sir), but i think i’m a fan of led zeppelin. i haven’t ever sat down with their music and listened to much of the non-hits, but overall they seem like a pretty solid rock group. this is probably a pretty big “duh” moment for some of you, but i have good reason:
- my parents were into classical, oldies, and blues
- my older brother is actively NOT into led zeppelin
- as a youngster, i didn’t know anyone else who was into them
- i still don’t really know anyone who’s way into them
- no one has ever said, “hey, eli, you’d really like led zeppelin.”
so there. anyhoo, i think that i’ve decided that i’d like to expose myself (!) to their music and really give it a go. soooo, to my reader(s) i pose a question:
what is the best way to go about discovering led zeppelin? should i pick up a “best of” or start with a certain album? could i borrow this music from you or am i gonna have to got out and buy the shit?
what do you think (not you, nate)?
simple suggestion: the library. i have found that i can get nearly any marginally popular music for free at the library. what isn’t on the shelves can be placed on hold.
and in case you were wondering if world of warcraft is an addictive online game – yes, yes it is. i downloaded the free 10-day trial online and have felt that same feeling i had in the days when diablo 2 and myst dominated my life. thank god that beast can be defeated by my unwillingness to pay for the subscription. cheapo advantage +3 over online gaming world.

Eli, I am in a similar state of discovery with Zeppelin, and what I have found is that they are really rockin musically, but I can’t stand his voice. It’s a borderline deal-breaker, but some of their guitar stuff is really cool. I recently got this boxset of theirs that I put on my ipod, and it had like forty songs on it, so if you want to give ‘em a listen, let me know. Or Pete’s idea about the library is good, too.
i think i’ll take you up on that, drew.
