i’ve got an idea for a movie… take 2
by Eli
i know that i’ve talked about this before (you know, the part about it not actually being a movie and instead it being a book; it might also have something to do with those moments that i have every once in a while), but it just jumped to a whole new level. you won’t even believe how much of a good idea this is.
so instead of doing a shit load of research and actually writing the book, AND organizing the whole damn thing, i’ll just get the “experts” to write it for me. in essence, i will be what “we in the business” call an “editor.” it’s perfect!
i’d write a cover letter and proposal, and then find 100 people that looked like they had what it takes: suitable “contributers.” the cover letter would be my story thus far. i’d explain my passion for this kind of information in this form, but i’d also be frank and let them know that i’ve never editted a book before. i’d be really transparent.
the proposal would explain in laymens terms what they are to give and what they are to gain. i’d ask for about 25 pages of interesting prose in their field of expertise and they would get X amount in return depending on how well the book does. it would also mention that it is just as important to write about something interesting as it would be to write it in an interesting way. those that failed to do so would not be accepted. in fact, MOST of the people that respond won’t be accepted. in this first round, there’d probably only be about 8 finalists. i think an 8% success rate seems pretty reasonable.
the really cool part is that if i’m freed from actually doing the research, then the books could be put together quite a bit faster. this would add considerably to the possibility of a series.
so, if i hear back from anyone, then we keep talking and start to see where it goes from there: with enough responses it would make sense to hire a lawyer. he’d write up something fancy, i’d have the contributers sign the form and turn in 25 pages. with free rain on the “linguistical” writing (not the science itself, but the word choices and organization) i could really shape and form the story the best way possible (and that ability to edit the “design” side of things would of course be part of the contract). i’d get everything organized and nice and shiny, and then start shopping it around. hell, maybe i could even get Crimethinc. to do it for me. if it does well, i do another. the better it does, the cooler the people that will be willing to do it, the better it does, the cooler the people that will be willing to do it.
it almost seems to good to be true.
actualy investment involves:
my time
this invovles fleshing out this idea a bit more, writing up the cover letter and propsal, researching individuals that are acceptable candidiates (~100), and fill and send those envelopes. even if i only get one (1) response, that will be enough for me to commit more time, but my guess is that i’ll hear back from quite a bit more that you’d think.
my money
i have to pay for the stamps, envelopes, printable address stickies, printing, and paper (etc) that would be required to send out 100. would could that be? 50 bucks? maybe a hundred?
it really seems like a win win situation if your asking me. what’s that? well, put your money where your mouth, asshole!
sounds great. do it.
how is this a movie?
didn’t you read the last entry? i linked to it like right away at the beginning.
more like, ‘how are YOU a movie!’
