Antarctica Update 4
by Eli
since i first heard about this opportunity (back in november ’05) i have been trying my hardest to get as much information as i can. basically everyone that i talked to told me to just sign up on rayjobs.com and let that work itself out. nothing looked really promising. until now! this coming April 7th i am going to be in Denver, Colorado attending an antarctic job fair at the prolar research headquarters of raytheon. i am super pumped.
i’m flying in on the 6th and flying out on the 8th, and will be at the job fair all day from 10am to 7pm on the 7th. i plan on making an impression. evelyn has helped me set up some accommodations with her friend laura, and i’m sure we could squeeze a few others in if need be. so, if you want to guarantee yourself a job down on the ice, you need to be there with me. fly, drive, swim, fly, do whatever you need to do to get there. let me know if you are interested.
if for some reason coming to denver for a one day job fair to increase your chances of getting a 4 month job in antarctica isn’t that appealing to you, that’s fine. right now i’m planning on facilitating your needs as much as possible. the most reasonable way to accomplish this is for you to send me a copy of the resume you’d like me to hand out along with your preferred jobs. i’ll make multiple copies (~20) of each resume i get and pass them out for you.
the way that i see, the more energy you put into something, the more energy you’ll get out of it. if you’ve signed up for jobs online, then your chances to go are so-so. if you give me a resume to pass out, your chances most certainly increase. and if you go in person, then you are almost gauranteed a job (or so i’ve heard). so giving me a resume is great, but honestly it won’t be nearly as effective as being there in person.
as of this writing i’ve received only one resume so far: peter huff’s. if you told me you were going to send it but haven’t yet, get on it! the best way would be email and that address is: elisfanclub at gmail dot com. 12 days and counting!
I’ll send it to you asap. If the conference had been last weekend, or this weekend, or next weekend, I could have done it…the timing is just bad. oh well.
