Antarctica Update 3
by Eli
hey y’all. i’m in austin texas right now, gearing up for the South by Southwest interactive festival (can you say nerd party?), and i’ll be letting you in on all that very shortly, but right now i need to key you all in on what’s going on with antarctica at this point in time.
i know it seems like a long time from now (november), but before you know it, all the jobs that are available will be gone and then we’ll all be shit out of luck. the jobs usually get filled by the latest in june, so if we want to get the kickass positions we need to get on it. i am “getting on it” by going to the Polar Research Services job fair in Denver, Colorado this april. i have alread bought my plane ticket (april 6th through the 8th) and am planning on staying with a friend of evelyn’s while i’m there. so what can you do?
first off, you can come to denver with me. and why would you do that? because just about everyone that i’ve talked to about this job fair says that if you go to this job fair, you will get a job in antarctica. how’s that for ass kickin’? the fair itself is from 10am to 7pm on april 7th. i’m arriving the night before and leaving the night after, but anyway that you can get there is fine with me. i’m totally going there for business, so i’m going to be at the job fair for most if not all of the day on the 7th and i’m going to be kicking ass and taking names.
as for the taking names part, if you can not attend the job fair for one reason or another, it is then your responsibility to get me a copy of the resumé you want me hawking for you. keep in mind that i will only have one version of your resumé so it must be general and all emcompassing and overall well representing of your stanky ass. ha ha. i’m going to make many copies of each resumé that i recieve then pass those out as i see fit. along with your resumé i need a list of the jobs that you’d prefer and from there i’ll make my best judgement in getting you any job that will take you. can you imagine me at the job fair asking for work and then handing te recruter 10 resumés of my friends that also want jobs? hilarious!
so, just so i’m clear, there is definitely an order of importance here. so, the lowest level is just putting your resumé on rayjobs.com (which we all have done at this point), then followed by giving your resumé to me to personally hand in, and finally to attend in person and get the face time. so, if you can’t come to denver, don’t feel sorry for yourself, just get me a copy of your resumé (email is fine) and i’ll do the dirty work for you. but, let’s be honest, me in person is gonna look a whole lot better than you on paper.
be strong and you shall survive!
