Final Destination 2: Seattle
by Eli
we FUCKING made it! and in just a shade over 4,000 miles (” …well, a lot of people drive across the country in over 4,000 miles.” … “yeah, they’re called truck drivers!”) YEAH!! this calls for a little bit of the bubbly!
we have officially been here one (1) week and are really enjoying our new diggs. dubbed, The Austin House, our place is a converted fraternity house which is officially located at 2106 NE 47th St, Seattle, WA 98105 (for all you fools that would ever need to mail me something). From our place, it’s only about a 5 minute walk to The Ave, 10 minute walk to Hannah’s place, 10 minute drive to the AssChapel, and a quick bus ride downtown. i’m really loving this new location compared to my aunt and uncle’s place. don’t get me wrong: i definitely appreciate that they let me stay for free and all of the opportunities which that provided, but i will gladly pay the $200/month rent i’m paying to stay here than live there for free. and i’d say that my aunt and uncle would probably say the same. ha!
the first couple days after we got here were spent going to target and PCC (the co-op) and getting supplies. we have packed the room with all our crap and meredith completed the finishing touches today. it’s beautiful. i’ve taken quite a few pictures of the room to show you how it looks, and i’m posting them here in a variety of ways. i tried to film a small video of me walking in the front door of the house, up the stairs, in the room and then into our room, but i wasn’t working, so i’ll post that some other time. for now, i’m posting a few pictures of the house and the room. hopefully this gives you the jist of things.
i’m back to work at Discount Divers Supply and getting back in the groove of it. the work is actually pretty lame as far as web design goes, but i only have to work 18 hours a week and that lets me easily pay my bills and have money to spare. hopefully, in my spare time i will start working on my own projects and break these chains that bind me. meredith is still looking for a job at thrift shops, PCC, and domestic violence shelters, and i’ll keep you posted on how she fairs in that regard.
since we’ve been here, we’ve also: walked around green lake, jointly checked our email on matching powerbooks at a hip coffee, gone to bartells with hannah, rode the bus downtown a few times, and prayed for sunshine. i found an organic community garden down the street that i am TOTALLY gonna check out when the weather shifts a bit. i’ve started playing Metriod Prime: Echos, and it totally rocks. things are also moving along fairly well with this whole “antarctica” thing. for anyone else who wants to go, i will be posting information on how to sign up for that later, so stay tuned. we also, unfortunately, watched the Colts lose at home to the Steelers. that was heart breaking, and i think it has possibly stolen a small piece of Drew and Tyler’s souls. very sad.
oh yeah, and i grew out my mustache, but it’s gone now.

I love the bus video. Nice stretch photo of your room, too. i like how mere is awake at the get go, and then sleeping, ’cause it took you so long to take the pictures.
Hey, Eli! I got all warm reading about your and Mere’s new room, and I even poked around the DD website and saw a picture of you on the Staff page. It’s funny because I know you so well: I’m pretty sure I could discern which parts of the website were your design, and which were absoluely not. Anyway, I miss you guys!
And, I looooved the panorama, and I’ll tell you why. I was once told people break into two cateogories: pack-rats and purgers. Pack-rats just CAN”T throw anything away, and purger’s can’t stand clutter and want everything trashed. I think that you’re a short-term pack-rat (witness that extra closet in your downstairs room in the manhammer) but in the long-term you’re a purger becuase every year or two you just gather it all up and Goodwill it.
So, here’s where it applies to your panorama. I felt kin with you when I heard how lightly and efficiently you were packing for Seah-town. Then, when I saw the Panorama, I realized it was all for NAUGHT. For every single item you had in that room, based on the panorama, Meredith had 10 or 20. She had more things in that room than I’ve had in all the rooms of my entire life combined. H A H A
well andy, to be honest, meredith did a great job of packing her stuff and only bringing the necesities. you could say that I was the one that got a little out of hand. i don’t know what it is, but that picture might just be decieving in that realm. but, i am still definitely a purger. miss you too!
ie….why did you cut off the stash? you already have a girlfriend so technically you wouldn’t be that creepy (unlike myself). so what gives? i’m sure mere would be into the glorious world of mustache rides.
Hey, I just moved to Seattle too, and did a search for “Austin House” and found your post. I’m curious to hear more about it – if you think it’s worth trying to get a place in after you’ve been there a little longer. Seems like they have pretty cheap rents and whatnot. If you have a chance and are up to it, please drop me an email (should be listed above – if not, use the contact form on my site). Cheers!
