Stop 3: Bozeman, MT
by Eli
on the way to bozeman last night the snow got pretty heavy over the pass. at one point, it was coming at us like that old windows space flight screen saver, gusty and thick. i was driving at the time, so i sped up. jk. ha! anyhoo, we made it through just fine, arrived at 11:30pm after 15 hours on the road. we were tired as fuck and ready to crash.
ben’s place (sorry cox and nicole, it’s just easier to call it that) was very nice. on the outside of town a bit in a little neighborhood, it felt very much like a home. meredith and i were given our own room with a futon frame on which we threw our air mattress. after setting up the bed we hung out with ben, kat, cox, and nicole. we watched family guy and made mac ‘n cheese, while ben made some sort of red, iced, alcoholic drink in the blender. i think the kids call them “daiquiris.”
we crashed 1am and woke up on our own accord at 9am, apparently we’ve settled into some sort of a rhythm. nonetheless, we got up, started packing, and noticed that i thick coating of soft powder had fallen over night. the dogs (nova and fisher) were delighted to run around outside and roll around in it and then come back inside and melt.
because of this snowfall and the smallish roads that lead south, we opted against going through yellowstone. we thought that the route around the mountains would be fine and smooth sailing, and for the most part we were right. but there were still a few times when the ice was thick, and at one point we were completely unable to see any of the lines on the road. scary.
the roads are clear now as i write this entry. with about 2 more hours to salt lake city, it will soon be my time to drive. we are crashing at shane’s tonight and spending the day with him tomorrow as well.
Great photo of the bike on the back of the car.
